Testimonials
Letter of Recommendation for Cal Callahan I initially brought Cal in as a consultant to help document the CDMA test procedures then being developed by QUALCOMM’s CDMA Test Laboratories. This task involved working closely with engineers and technicians to develop and write new procedures from scratch. Cal had no difficulty understanding and clearly explaining these sophisticated plans and procedures, even though they involved specialized test equipment coupled to an array of spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and other gear. Impressed with the clarity, accuracy, and readability of Cal’s efforts, I asked him to join QUALCOMM as a full-time, regular employee. During his two years under my direct supervision, Cal willingly and capably tackled a variety of demanding tasks, primarily in the areas of operation and maintenance manuals for wireless networks and infrastructure. He established excellent rapport with subject experts and peers and consistently met demanding deadlines with polished efforts. He was always ready to lend a hand in any task, from simple proofreading through meticulous editing and peer review. He even gladly performed a non-writing task, specifically, specifying and ordering a set of custom shipping containers for the large computers and printers used by our on-the-road standards-writing team. Cal’s skill in interviewing and his creative writing abilities led us to assign him full-time as a copywriter for Human Resources, where he developed recruitment ads, brochures, and other collateral materials. However, whenever work in that area was slack, he made himself available to help with technical documents, either as a writer or editor. Cal is amazing because he’s one of the very few people who can write interesting, engaging, effective, and ongoing newsletters (one of the most difficult writing jobs) for any company or organization. I call Cal “Mr. Persuasion.” For example, while I was proofing one of his QUALCOMM recruit-engineers newspaper ads, his prose drew me in, made me forget what I was doing, and I thought, “Wow! That sounds like a great company! I’d like to work there.” I wholeheartedly recommend Cal for any assignment that requires skilled writing, team effort, tenacity, and the ability to quickly grasp and communicate complex concepts.
